Graduates of CAA attend highly regarded BFA conservatory programs as well as academic BA programs in Musical Theatre and beyond. Recent graduates have attended the University of Michigan, Oklahoma City University, New York University/Cap 21, Cincinnati Conservatory of Music, and Emerson College.
Musical Theatre is comprised of three disciplines: Voice, Dance, and Acting. Students wishing to excel in Musical Theatre must become a “triple threat” and perform well in each area of study.
“My experience at the Arts Academy was the foundation for everything I have become as an artist. I learned discipline. I learned how to focus.”
– Elisabeth Withers-Mendes, Tony Nominated Actress; Alumni 1988
Performance is a key part of learning, and students have ample opportunity for it. In addition to quarterly showcase performances, Musical Theatre produces three main stage shows per year: a major department production, a revue, and an all school musical. Recent shows have included: Into the Woods, Cabaret, City of Angels, Kiss Me Kate, and Merrily We Roll Along, while recent revues have focused on the songs of Noel Coward, Jerry Herman, and Charles Strouse.
